How to convert AVIF to Word

    1. Drop your AVIF files onto the box above, or paste them with Ctrl+V.
    2. Your browser does the work on your own machine.
    3. Save each file from its tile, or take them all at once.

What changes, and what does not

    Animation is lost

A AVIF can hold many frames and a Word holds one, so you get the first frame as a still image. A browser canvas cannot write animation back out, and a converter that claims to is doing it on a server with your file.

    About AVIF

The newest and smallest of the web formats. Support outside browsers is still thin.

Worth knowing: Needs a browser released in the last few years to decode.

    About Word

A .docx describes a document rather than a page: this is a heading, this is a list. That is what makes it editable.

Worth knowing: Only .docx is read. The older .doc format is a different, undocumented binary.

Read this before you use it

This places your picture inside a Word document, sized to fit the page. It does not read the words out of the image. If your AVIF is a photo of a receipt, a scanned letter or a screenshot of text and you want that text back as something you can edit, you want OCR, and this is not it. Nothing here does OCR: it needs a trained model, and running one honestly in your browser is a different project from this one.

Sites that promise to turn a photograph of text into an editable document are running OCR on their servers, with your image. That may be exactly what you want. It is worth knowing which of the two things you are being sold, because both are called "AVIF to Word".

    What you get

A .docx with your image on the first page, scaled down if it was wider than the page and left alone if it was not. Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice and Pages all open it. The image goes in as a PNG whatever it started as, because Word will not embed HEIC, AVIF or SVG.

    Other conversions

AVIF also converts to JPG, PNG, WebP and PDF.

Word also comes from HEIC, PNG, JPG, WebP and GIF.
