About this tool

Render the pages of a PDF as images, at whatever sharpness you need. A PDF page has no resolution of its own, it is instructions for drawing, so you choose how many pixels per inch to produce, from screen size up to something that holds together in print. Convert a whole document or just the pages you name. A single page arrives as an image; a longer document arrives as a zip with the pages numbered in order. Everything is rendered by your own browser, so the document is never uploaded.

Which image format do I get?

PNG by default, because pages are mostly text and rules and PNG keeps every edge exactly. Switch the output to JPG when the pages are photographs or scans, where JPG produces a far smaller file that looks the same — PDF to JPG opens on that setting. WebP and AVIF are available in the panel too and are smaller again, though they have no page of their own here: nobody searches for them, and a page for a conversion nobody asks about is a page that competes with the two that matter.

Whichever you choose, the words on the page stop being words. If you need the text rather than the look of it, PDF to text pulls it out directly.

Which sharpness should I pick?

A PDF page has no resolution of its own, it is instructions for drawing, so it can be rendered at any size. The setting above chooses how many pixels to draw per inch. Good is right for reading on screen or sending to someone. Print produces large files but holds up when printed at full size. Going higher than you need mostly produces a slower conversion and a bigger file.

Why did I get a zip?

Because a PDF usually has more than one page, and one image per page means a browser firing off dozens of downloads at once, which browsers throttle or block. A single-page PDF downloads as a plain image; anything longer is packaged, uncompressed, into a zip. The pages are numbered so they stay in order.

Can I get the text instead?

Yes. PDF to text pulls out the words rather than a picture of them, which is what you want if you need to edit or search the content. Rendering to an image is right when you need the page to look exactly as it does now.
